We are so grateful for the schools approach to working with the students as they grow and learn. Our son has found himself in the ‘principles office’ a few times and he is always met with with love and support. There’s no judgment or anger, just compassion and understanding. Thank you for taking such a kind and empathetic approach to challenging situations. He feels valued and safe and that’s priceless!

The Arts and Sciences at Manhattan are amazing and draw our son out to do more things than he might otherwise do. So rewarding for the students!

Fiona and Roscoe

My daughter was one of two students from Lafayette Elementary that choose Manhattan in her year and began at Manhattan knowing few students. The first half of 6th grade was stressful as she figured out her place socially, but by the middle of that first year rewarding bonds had formed and deepened. I have been told that is a pretty typical way for middle school to work. I raise this for those parents and future Phoenixes out there, coming from far flung places in small numbers. You will be okay. : )

The Manhattan "vibe" really works for her -- welcoming and artsy, a kind and dedicated staff with both a vision and expectations of students, and top notch visual arts programming. She also appreciates the relative racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of the school.

My daughter  has grown as an individual and as a student in the amazing environment provided by the welcoming and nurturing culture at Manhattan Middle School. The leadership is inspiring. Principal Lewis and the personnel she has hired to support her mission are a team of super stars. Every single time I've had the fortune to interact with them has been a pleasure. This group of great professionals have created a happy and completely inclusive environment hard to find anywhere. BVSD should take note and try to replicate this mentality/culture and implement it throughout the district.

We couldn't be happier with Manhattan! It is like a warm hug especially for the 6th graders!

We are incredibly grateful for our kiddo's experience these past 3 years at Manhattan. I have been amazed at the consistent dedication shown by staff, administration and teachers to meet a child where they are at and help them grow and learn. I have been especially impressed by their willingness to employ out-of-the-box solutions for our neurodiverse child. I think Manhattan especially shines working with twice-exceptional & unique kids (gifted but also have a disability). In other words, Manhattan shines with kids that very likely would struggle at other, more "traditional" middle schools. I have to give a special shout out to the counseling staff. They go above and beyond for students and their genuine care is obvious. We are going to miss Manhattan next year!

Our eldest son attended Manhattan Middle School and had a wonderful experience. So many opportunities for growth as a person and a student. He was supported and guided every step of the way by a caring staff and teachers. 100 Elk was a fabulous way for him to transition to middle school and make friends. In addition to that, he had travel opportunities and worked hard to pay for half of his subsequent trips. He was able to go on the Santa Fe art trip in 7th grade and also on the Tall Ships trip in 8th grade. What amazing experiences to have had with memories that will last a lifetime! Although his time was cut short at the end of 8th grade by the pandemic, his time at Manhattan has helped shape who he is today as a senior in high school.

When it came time for our next son to choose a middle school we didn’t even need to consider anywhere else, he knew Manhattan was also the place for him. Although we were disappointed that 100 Elk didn’t happen for him last year, he has transitioned to middle school incredibly well. The thing he said he would miss the most last summer was his teachers!!! He has kept his elementary core group of friends from a different school district and they are all thriving at Manhattan! They have expanded their friend group to include so many other smart, funny and curious kids. We love how the staff and teachers meet the kids where they are at, support them where needed and help them explore their interests and continually push them to grow and learn about the world around them.

Kids acting on out a play on a stage

Our son's transition to middle school has been surprisingly successful! We were unsure of how well he would do with multiple classes, a locker, new classmates, and new teachers. The teachers and staff have been great! As a teacher in BVSD, I am so happy we had our son OE to Manhattan. The diversity, inclusion and community are remarkable. The enthusiasm that the staff bring every day is shown through all they do for their students! Thank you!

Many kids outside doing various things

I love the welcoming environment of Manhattan. The teachers and administration are very involved with the students and are dedicated to creating a caring environment. They embed the arts into the learning, which is great for capturing the creative side of the learning process. Also, they provide some school wide field trips that allow students to learn outside the school setting. It is a great place for middle schoolers to feel safe and thrive!

The staff at Manhattan Middle School are wonderful. They're supportive, innovative and they make each student feel welcome and valued, no matter how quirky you are. The school challenges the kids while letting them have fun! We are happy to be part of the Phoenix Family.
